Introduction

To research, interpret and drive the implementation of relevant global design trends into product direction appropriate for Woolworths to ensure that merchandise meets and exceeds customer expectations and delivers sustainable, profitable growth.
Minimum Requirements

Relevant Design diploma / degree
8- 10 years Design/Retail experience with Lingerie design experience as a preference & Womenswear design experience is essential
2 – 3 years in a leadership position
Deep retail skill and understanding, both local and global
Deep understanding of the Clothing Industry, customer and the product development process
Creativity, taste level and flair in line with the brand
Trend analysis and editing skills
Strategic ability
Process thinking skills
Strong influencing and communication capability
Leadership skills

Job Specification

Gather and present seasonal trend research and key shifts, identify opportunities and formulate action plan (includes preparation activities, KPIs and measure of success)
Provide input into the development of the Group Product Strategy and 1 year operating plan
Ensure consistent taste level within Lingerie in line with Woolworths brand
Give input to the product strategy at group unit level taking into account trend direction, customer, competitive analysis, growth / exit of product categories and key tiering to determining BU product objectives
Ensure that the design brief incorporates the special occasions strategy
Review group post-season and trading performance and take key lessons learnt into the Design Brief
Deliver design direction in line with Global trends appropriate for the Woolworths customer (9 box grid)
Conduct inspirational shopping/analyse designer collections
Develop the seasonal design briefs and present the seasonal direction/styles, looks, themes, prints and colour
Develop initial design direction for new initiatives
Review and sign-off design concepts quarterly/seasonally
Review continuity (key and core) items to ensure alignment with seasonal design brief
Manage tech pack process with Design Team
Maintain the relationships between Design Centres of local and international suppliers as well as external resources i.e. M&S, Doneger and WGSN
Manage relationships and integrate with relevant internal business partners (e.g. Buying, Trend and Brand, Sourcing & Technology,
Sales Management, Marketing) to optimise the effectiveness of the product development process.
Input into financial budgets and manage expenses
Manage the critical path and embed a trading mentality with Design Teams
Develop, motivate, inspire and lead the relevant group’s Design team and provide ongoing feedback to enhance performance and deliver the seasonal product direction
Ensure adequate succession planning and a talent pipeline and manage the achievement of EE staffing targets
Manage design activities in line with agreed performance measures and operating budgets
