My client, a Fitness Centre, based in Cape Town seeks to employ a Fitness Centre Manager to work in their club.

None Negotiable: The successful candidate, MUST have a good knowledge of CLIMBING & MUST have managed a gym/fitness facility before

Responsibilities usually cover the broad areas of marketing the facility and any special events, managing staff and dealing with the technical aspects of fitness provision and health and safety.

The manager is also accountable for the overall profitability of the centre.

Responsibilities

designing and promoting activities to meet customer demand and generate revenue;
advertising and promoting the club or centre to increase usage, which may include commissioning and considering market research;
maintaining high levels of customer care, often with a particular focus on avoiding loss of existing users;
prioritising target activities and user groups (especially in local authority centres);
managing maintenance, insurance, repairs and cleaning;
recruiting, training and supervising staff, including managing staff rotas;
carrying out health and safety checks on the equipment and site;
handling complaints and incidents, e.g. accidents, emergencies or theft;
ensuring own and staff members’ first aid training is up to date;
delivering some fitness training or coaching in sports activities – often a good way of maintaining contact with customers;
preparing and checking budgets and generating income;
cashing-up and keeping stock records;
purchasing equipment and supplies;
writing monthly or weekly reports and preparing cash projections for centre owners or more senior management.
What to expect

The need to meet key performance indicators and financial targets may be stressful.
The job is primarily office-based but with frequent visits to different parts of the facility.
Qualifications

Qualification in Sports Sciences or related

business, management or other business-related subjects;
life sciences;
physiology;
sport, leisure or recreation management;
sports science;
travel, tourism or leisure studies.

Salary package:

R15 000- R20 000 (CTC, depending on experience)
