Veolia is seeking an Operations Engineer for our Paarl offices.

Responsibilities:

a) Support to O&M team to ensure efficient plant operation, efficient preventative and corrective maintenance and achieving and improving financial objectives.

b) Establish and maintain a positive and informative relationship with O&M team, clients and suppliers/subcontractors.

c) Assist O&M management to establish and improve systems and procedures for effective plant operation and maintenance.

i. Technical Duties

a) Co-ordinate the submission of Operations & Maintenance tenders

b) Work closely with the Design & Build, and/or Engineered Systems divisions to determine competitive life-cycle costs where O&M is combined with the EPC of new water treatment plants.

c) Assist in the drafting and checking of Operation & Maintenance contracts.

d) Assist with the commissioning of new water treatment plants which includes operating and maintenance contracts.

e) Ensure plant operates within specification, trending results and optimization thereof.

f) To direct & develop the implementation of company standards and systems and develop a reliable operations database.

g) Ensure that plant equipment is maintained according to pre-defined schedules.

h) Ensure the application of contractual standards and regulations.

i) Execute all functions and operations pertaining to this position according to company policies, standards, and procedures.

j) Adhere to the following guidelines for the successful execution of contracts.

i. Organise a contract handover meeting.

ii. Read through the contract file carefully and objectively and understand clearly the responsibilities and deliverables.

iii. Identify problem areas, define split in the scope of responsibilities and formulate solutions.

iv. Follow the implementation programme conscientiously and give feedback to the Manager – Cape Operations.

v. Formulate chemical consumption control, preventative maintenance schedules, and other relevant documentation.

vi. Monitor chemical stock, spares inventory, stores, and workshops.

vii. Communicate with the client constantly and maintain an accurate record of this.

REQUIRED COMPETENCE AND/OR QUALIFICATIONS:

a) BTech/BSc in an engineering field (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical or Civil (Water) at a

recognized institution or assessed equivalent competence.

b) Minimum of 5-8 years working experience in water and wastewater treatment industry.

c) Experience in advanced treatment processes i.e. ultra-filtration and reverse osmosis processes

d) Thorough knowledge of commercial terms.

e) Computer literate (MS Office).

f) Organisation skills.

g) Verbal and written communication skills.
